    • This dictionary makes studying Japanese easy and fun. This dictionary is just the tool I wish I always had. Finding kanji pronunciations and definitions becomes easy and fun. Did you ever tripped on a stubborn kanji in the middle of an article on the Web, and spent several minutes trying to locate it in a conventional dictionary? Now you can paste, type, search your character. You will also obtain a full table of all the words containing that character: a quick way to build complete kanji cards on the spot. You can also search by radical. You can find homophones. You can easily navigate from one kanji (kana or English word) to another.     The following screenshot shows how to obtain the full reference card of any given kanji when you search by radical. The left-hand panel contains the radical table and the right-hand panel contains the search results.

    Online version versus CD-ROM version Comparaison entre la version en ligne et la version sur cédérom

  • The online version contains 440 kanji characters (first three levels of jōyō) and approximately 1500 words. The CD-ROM version contains 6000 kanji characters (and approximately 15000 words.
  • The online version may take some time to load. The CD-ROM version loads instantaneously.
  • The online version is available... well, online. The CD-ROM version can be used offline (without installation since it behaves like an ordinary Web site).
  • The online version is free (except for the webmaster). The CD-ROM version costs 25 US$ (+ 5 US$ shipment fee).
  • Both versions only work with Internet Explorer 5.5+ and Windows 98+ (sorry, it is not an ideological choice). Explorer 6 and Windows XP recommended. Japanese characters must be present on your system.
  • Don't buy the CD-ROM before you have tested the online version!
  • The CD-ROM contains a few extras: vocabulary tables, kana pratice, poems, quick translation window. These extras are not officially part of the package.
